.NU Domain Ltd and Telia Forge Colocation Partnership to Build UNICODE Domain Name Infrastructure

.NU Domain Ltd Will Operate Systems Supporting Local Language Characters Like å, ä, ö, Ð, and  ñ, in its Web Addresses at Telia's New Colocation Site in Haninge, Sweden.

MEDFIELD, Mass. and HANINGE, Sweden, April 4, 2000 - .NU Domain Ltd (www.nunames.nu.), one of the fastest growing Top Level Domains (TLDs) on the Internet, and Telia AB, Sweden's largest Internet Service Provider and the leading supplier of telecom-based information services in the Nordic/Baltic region, today announced a colocation partnership which will strengthen .NU Domain Ltd's infrastructure in Sweden and throughout Europe. As a first step in developing the partnership, Telia will be providing connectivity and colocation services at its new large-scale colocation site in Haninge, Sweden, for .NU Domain Ltd's Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) services. .NU Domain Ltd's NUBIND^TM IDN service supports UNICODE character sets, including the Swedish letters å, ä, and ö, in .NU Web addresses.

.NU Domain Ltd is the only TLD in the world that supports UNICODE internationalized domain names. The unique service was developed under the guidance of .NU Domain technical advisor Dr. Paul V. Mockapetris, former chairman of the Internet standards body, the IETF, and the inventor of the Internet's Domain Name System (DNS).

NUBIND^TM is currently undergoing Beta testing and is expected to become widely available for .NU domain customers to test in the next few weeks. Customers in Sweden who's Internet Service Providers do not yet support NUBIND^TM will be able to point their Internet browsers to the .NU name server at Telia (ns0.telia.nic.nu) in order to obtain access to the service. NUBIND^TM is also compatible with Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5.0 and with Microsoft's new version of the NT operating system, Windows 2000, which shipped to users last month.
